Trust and security
Ship management software your fleet can trust
Navatom keeps ship and office records available 99.5% of the time, encrypted and hosted in Frankfurt, in the EU. When the satellite link drops, crews keep reporting and logging.
We name what we do, not the vendors, versions or layouts behind it: those details help an attacker more than they help you.

Uptime
No downtime when the inspector is on board
A port state inspection, a vetting or a crew change does not wait for a software release, so Navatom is built not to make it wait.
- Two data centres at onceThe office and ship applications run in two separate data centres at the same time. If one fails, the other keeps serving.
- Updates without downtimeNew releases roll out one server at a time, so you never wait for a maintenance window.
- Restarted automaticallyA service that stops answering is taken out of service and restarted automatically.
- Three copies of every recordYour records are kept in three copies in separate data centres, so losing one machine or one building loses nothing.
- Files that can be brought backEvery version of every uploaded file is kept, so Navatom can recover a document that was deleted or replaced by mistake.
- Restored to a point in timeNavatom’s databases are backed up continuously, so your records can be restored as they stood at a chosen moment.
Offline on board
When the satellite link drops, the work goes on
On board, the work crews do most keeps going without a connection: reporting deficiencies, near misses, accidents and other findings, writing the logbook, and reading manuals and circulars. A lost satellite link is an inconvenience, not a day of lost records.
Continuum keeps those records on the device itself. The crew keep reading and recording, changes wait in a queue, and each one is sent and checked by the server when the link is back. A few steps, such as signing a logbook day, wait for the connection.
Data protection
Your records stay encrypted and in the EU
Crew passports, medical certificates and inspection findings are sensitive. Navatom keeps them encrypted, separate from every other company and under EU law.
- Encrypted connectionsEvery connection from a browser or a ship to Navatom is encrypted, and so is every connection from Navatom’s servers to its databases.
- Encrypted storageNavatom’s databases and file storage keep records, documents and attachments encrypted.
- Hosted in Frankfurt, GermanyYour records, crew personal data included, stay in an EU data centre under EU data protection law.
- A database of your ownEach customer’s records live in a database of their own, never mixed with another company’s data.
- Passwords never storedNavatom keeps only a salted one-way fingerprint of each password, which cannot be turned back into the password.
- Sign-in guarded against botsOffice and ship sign-in check for automated attempts before a password is even considered.
Access control
Access by vessel, rank and module
- Access follows crew changes. Seafarers can sign in only to the vessel they are currently assigned to, with the rights of their rank.
- Per vessel. Office users see only the vessels they are assigned to.
- Per module. An administrator decides which modules each person can open, and on board whether a rank can view or edit.
- Per action. Individual permissions decide who may approve a postponed job, renew a certificate or see sensitive crew information.
- Leavers. A deactivated account can no longer sign in.
Audit trail
Evidence ready for every audit and vetting
Every field change, comment and file is recorded with who made it and when. An auditor, a vetting inspector or your own superintendent can follow a record from the day it was raised.
A record keeps the name of the person who raised it, even years later and even after they have left the company.
Navatom AI
Navatom AI follows the same rules
The assistant is held to the same walls as the people who use it.
- Only your company’s data. Navatom AI works inside your own records and has no way to reach another company’s.
- Only what the person asking may see. It answers with the asker’s permissions: a module they cannot open is closed to it too.
- Never used to train a model. Your data never trains a model, Navatom AI runs with EU data residency, and every conversation is logged for review.
Vendor review
Your security questions, answered
Charterers, insurers and TMSA self-assessments ask the same questions of every software vendor. These are Navatom’s answers.
Where is Navatom’s data stored?
Navatom stores your data in an EU data centre in Frankfurt, Germany, under EU data protection law. Each customer’s records live in a database of their own, separate from every other customer.
Is our data encrypted?
Yes. Every connection from a browser or a ship to Navatom is encrypted, and Navatom’s databases and file storage keep records, documents and attachments encrypted.
What uptime does Navatom have?
Navatom has 99.5% platform uptime across the ship and office applications. They run in two data centres at once, and updates roll out one server at a time, so a release does not take Navatom offline.
Does Navatom work without an internet connection on board?
Yes, for the work crews do most. Reports such as deficiencies and near misses, the logbook, and reading manuals and circulars keep working without a connection, and changes are sent when it returns. A few steps, such as signing a logbook day, wait for the connection.
Does Navatom back up our data?
Yes. Navatom’s databases are backed up continuously, so your records can be restored as they stood at a chosen moment, and every record is also kept in three copies in separate data centres. Every version of every uploaded file is kept as well.
Can ransomware on our office network take Navatom down?
Navatom runs no server in your office or on board for ransomware to lock. Your records live in Navatom’s data centres in three copies, so a locked office network does not lock your fleet’s records.
Can we limit access by vessel and rank?
Yes. Navatom sets access per person, per vessel and per module. On board, seafarers can sign in only to the vessel they are assigned to, with the rights of their rank, so access follows every crew change.
Is our data used to train AI models?
No. Navatom never uses your data to train a model. Navatom AI answers from your own records and documents, with the permissions of the person asking and EU data residency.
Does Navatom hold ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification?
Navatom’s hosting providers hold ISO 27001 and SOC 2. Navatom as a company does not yet hold its own certification and does not claim one.
