Benefits

Why Analytics?

Key advantages of Analytics as part of Navatom's integrated platform.

Know Why, Not Just How Many

Root causes, repeats and severity show what keeps going wrong, and issue flow shows where the work stalls and whose move it is.

Figures You Can Stand Behind

Every card says how it is calculated, on what basis and from how many records, so a figure holds up in front of a superintendent, an auditor or the board.

See Where the Fleet Overpays

Spend by vessel and vendor, quotation spread, savings and IMPA item prices by port show where the same goods cost more than they should.

Crew Cost and Crew Welfare Side by Side

Cost per crewed day sits beside wages owed, overtime paid against recorded, rest hour breaches and pay against the ILO minimum.

Analysis Without a BI Project

No exports, data warehouse or reports to build: the analytics come with the modules you already use, on the records you already keep.

Read One Page, Read Them All

Every page shares the same filters, overview, picks and Explain panel, so a team that learns one module's analytics can read every other.

Overview

Navatom Analytics turns the records your fleet already keeps in Navatom into analysis: why issues stay open and which causes keep coming back, where procurement money goes and how vendors deliver, how stock moves, what crew cost and how they are relieved, and how the audit program runs. It has 36 analytics pages across 15 Navatom modules, from Deficiencies and Procurement to Payroll and Crew Planning, each opened from that module's own menu.

Read the full overview of Analytics

Every page works the same way. Filters for the period and vessels sit at the top, and an overview compares the period with earlier ones, lists what needs attention worst first and repeats the figures as sentences, each linked to its card. Select a bar, slice or row and the other cards on the page narrow to it, and every card says how many records it is based on, with the records themselves below.

Each card explains itself. Its Explain panel says what it shows, how to read its kind of chart with a numbered drawing, how it is calculated and on what basis, such as BIMCO Shipping KPIs, MLC 2006, STCW, OCIMF guidance or each port State control MoU's published figures, what it shows right now, how to use it and what to watch out for. Navatom AI can answer questions about the same figures in plain language.

01

Charts That Explain Themselves

Every analysis card has an Explain button. It opens a panel that says what the card shows, how to read its kind of chart with a numbered drawing, how the figures are calculated and on what basis, what the card shows right now, how to use it, what to watch out for, and the words it uses, such as backlog, cohort or as-of date.

The basis names the measure a card follows where one exists: BIMCO Shipping KPIs for seafarers not relieved on time, sign-off reasons and rest hour violations, MLC 2006 and STCW for rest hours and certificates, OCIMF and SIGTTO for officer matrices, the INTERTANKO officer retention formula, IMPA codes for marine stores, and each port State control MoU's published figure for PSC findings.

02

Issue Flow Across the Fleet

For deficiencies, non-conformities, accidents, near misses and technical findings, Issue Flow follows every issue through its statuses. It shows what the open issues are waiting on and whether it is the office's move or the vessel's, the backlog over time, how old the open issues are, and how the open count at the start of the period became the count at its end.

Further cards show how long issues stay open, how long they sit in each status, whether recent issues close faster than earlier ones, which due dates moved and whether the vessel moved them, the work deferred to a dry dock, the paths issues take through the statuses, where in the fleet the backlog and overdue issues sit, and how many days pass from an event to its report, investigation and closure.

ALT

Issue Flow Across the Fleet

  • Waiting on the office or the vessel
  • Share still open after a given number of days
  • Due dates moved, and by whom
  • Paths through the statuses
  • Real changes told apart from chance

03

Procurement Spend, Suppliers & Prices

Four pages follow procurement from request to price. Flow shows where requisitions wait, how long each step takes, how goods were bought and how many days orders take to arrive on board. Spend shows where the money goes by vessel, category group, vendor and item, against last year and per vessel-month, with IMPA sections and how concentrated spend is among vendors.

Suppliers places each vendor by performance and spend, with delivery in full by the required date, quote behavior and supply routes from vendor country to delivery port. Price sets the spread of quotations against the award, the savings from average quotation to purchase order, each item's price history, IMPA item prices by vessel and port against the fleet average, and landed cost with freight, insurance and duty.

ALT

Procurement Spend, Suppliers & Prices

  • Spend by vessel, category & vendor
  • In full by the required date
  • Savings from quotation to order
  • IMPA item prices by vessel and port
  • Landed cost: freight, insurance & duty

04

At a Glance, Needs Attention & In Words

  • Main figures against earlier periods
  • Needs attention, worst first
  • Chance changes read as about the same
  • Figures as linked sentences
  • A page map of every section
How it works

Each page opens with an overview. At a glance sets the page's main figures against earlier periods and lists the changes that most need attention, worst first, and a change that chance alone could explain reads as about the same. In words gives the same figures as sentences, each figure a link to the card it comes from, and a page map answers each section's question in a line, most with a small chart.

05

Root Causes, Severity & Repeats

  • Most recorded causes, by level
  • Actual against potential severity
  • Repeats and the days between them
  • Who finds the issues
  • Action effectiveness by cause
How it works

For deficiencies, non-conformities, accidents and near misses, root cause analytics show which causes are recorded most at the level you choose, how the cause categories move from period to period, and where in the fleet they occur: by vessel, vessel type, flag, class society or your own vessel groups.

Further cards set actual severity against potential severity, show the causes behind injuries by how serious they were, list port State deficiency codes, find repeats with how sure each repeat is and how long after the earlier issue closed it came back, show who finds the issues, and show how often the actions taken on each cause proved effective.

06

Audit Program, Inspections & Follow-Up

  • PSC findings per inspection by MoU
  • Time since each internal audit
  • Own audits against outside inspections
  • Checklist items answered No most
  • Findings closed on time
How it works

Four pages show how the audit program runs. The program page counts the audits done by month or place, shows how long ago each vessel and the office last had each internal audit, and compares booked audits with those done. The inspections page shows how often each authority found nothing, and PSC findings per inspection under each MoU, for each vessel and the fleet, against the MoU's own published figure.

The findings page sets your own audits against outside inspections and shows the checklist items answered No most often. The follow-up page shows whether the issues raised from findings close by their due date, and how long audit reports take to close.

07

Inventory Stock, Movement & Critical Spares

  • Spares on board for critical equipment
  • Fast, slow & non-moving stock
  • Days of supply at the current rate of use
  • Count accuracy & shelf life
  • Below-minimum stock not reordered
How it works

Four pages. Critical spares shows whether each vessel's critical equipment has at least one of its spares on board, which critical spares are below minimum, and whether stock below its minimum is being reordered. Movement shows what added and took out stock by cause, with the reasons recorded, and how many days the stock on hand lasts at the period's rate of use.

Stock health shows how reliably counted quantities match the shelf, the share of fast, slow and non-moving lines, how long ago stock was received and how much is expired or close to it. Stock shows where stock sits by location and category group, how long arrivals wait to be put away, and how completely the stock lines record the data the analytics rely on.

08

Crew Retention, Reliefs & Certificates

  • Retention by the INTERTANKO formula
  • Seafarers past their relief date
  • Sign-off reasons
  • Certificate expiry horizon
  • Nationality and age aboard
How it works

For Crew Manager, the crew page shows who is aboard on any date by vessel, rank group and nationality, which seafarers are past their relief date and by how long, and the sign-offs that came after the contract end, by who agreed the extension. Retention over 12 months is shown by rank group, nationality, manning agent or vessel type, following the INTERTANKO officer retention formula.

Sign-off reasons, and the certificates of the seafarers aboard that have expired or expire soon, complete the page. Demographics show the crew by nationality and the age of those aboard by vessel and rank.

09

Crew Planning Pipeline & Officer Matrices

  • Time to fill & offer acceptance
  • Where line-ups drop out
  • Ranks below their minimum
  • Officer matrix status by vessel
  • Crew changes ready or not
How it works

For Crew Planning, the planning page shows how many line-ups wait at each stage and for how long, the time to fill a vacancy, offer acceptance, where candidates move on and where they drop out. It sets each vessel's ranks against their minimum, shows whether each vessel's officers meet its charterer officer matrix, how many seafarers aboard meet the required training of their rank, and which upcoming crew changes are ready.

10

Crew Cost, Wages & Crew Protection

  • Crew cost per crewed day
  • Pay against the ILO minimum wage
  • Overtime paid against recorded
  • Wages owed by age
  • One person on two steps of a run
How it works

Five Payroll pages. Crew cost shows each vessel's cost per crewed day against its vessel type, what crew cost is made of, how gross pay becomes net and what overruns past the contract end cost. Wages lays out the wage ladder, the spread of pay within each rank and able seamen's basic pay against the ILO minimum wage.

Money home follows net pay to where it goes, allotments against the minimum share and the cost of sending pay. Pay operations shows how long runs take, the checks raised at approval and how often one person did two steps of a run. Crew protection sets overtime paid against overtime recorded, shows wages owed by how long they have been due, leave owed, and deductions with their consent.

11

Rest Hour Breaches by Vessel & Rank

  • Breach crew-days per vessel
  • Ranks that breach most
  • Daily, weekly or split rest
  • Down to each seafarer
How it works

For Work & Rest Hours, the rest hours page counts the crew-days on which a seafarer broke a limit, per vessel, per rank and per group of limits: daily, weekly or how rest is split. The non-conformity trend page counts rest hour non-conformities month by month for each vessel, with the fleet total, and the records show each seafarer in breach on each vessel.

12

Picks That Narrow the Whole Page

  • Select a bar to narrow the page
  • Picks listed in one strip
  • Two views on some cards
  • Period and vessel filters
How it works

Select a bar, slice or row in a chart and the other cards on the page narrow to it; select it again to clear it. The picks stay listed at the top of the page, and some cards switch between two views of the same subject from their header.

13

Coverage Shown on Every Card

  • Based on X of Y records
  • Thin data called out
  • Widen the period in one click
How it works

Each card says how many records it is based on out of how many are in scope. When the records lack the data a view needs, the card says so instead of drawing a misleading chart, and a Widen period button tries a longer period.

14

Records Behind Every Chart

  • The records behind the cards
  • Narrowed by filters and picks
  • Issues, seafarers & evaluations
How it works

Each page ends with the records behind its cards, narrowed by the filters and every pick: the issues, the seafarers aboard and signed off, the ranks short of their minimum and the coming crew changes, the evaluations, and the seafarers in breach of rest hours.

15

Crew Evaluation Scores

  • Median & average crew scores
  • Lowest & highest scoring vessels
  • Scores by rank and vessel
How it works

For Evaluation & Feedback, the scores page shows how many crew evaluations were completed and scored, the median and average score, the lowest- and highest-scoring vessels, how scores spread across bands, and the median by rank and by vessel.

16

Running Cost Heatmap & Consumption Balance

  • Cost heatmap by month or quarter
  • Verified or all invoices
  • Item balance through the year
How it works

For Running Cost, a heatmap totals a vessel's invoices by month or quarter across its top-level cost categories, for verified invoices or every invoice that is not canceled. For Consumption & Waste, a chart shows each item's balance on a vessel through the year: what was added, used, lost, delivered ashore and discharged as waste.

17

Ask Navatom AI About the Figures

  • Issue flow, root cause & audit cards
  • The fleet or one vessel
  • Any period you name
  • Says when the data is too thin
  • Answers in plain language
How it works

Ask Navatom AI about the issue flow, root cause and audit analytics in plain language, for the whole fleet or one vessel and any period you name. The answer uses the same figures as the cards, and says when the data is too thin to read a trend from.

18

Choose the Vessels Analytics Includes

  • Include or leave out each vessel
  • Set by your admins
  • Your own vessel groups as filters
How it works

Admins decide for each vessel whether it is included in the analytics reports, and the vessel lists of the analytics pages follow that choice. Root cause and issue pages can also be filtered by your own vessel groups.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Analytics answered.

What is Navatom Analytics?

Navatom Analytics is a set of analysis pages across 15 Navatom modules, from Deficiencies and Procurement to Payroll and Crew Planning. It works on the office app and reads the records each module already keeps.

How is Analytics different from the Dashboard?

The Dashboard shows what is open, due and waiting now, in widgets you arrange, and ranks the fleet by safety and maintenance. Analytics shows how things moved over a period and why: backlogs, causes, waits, prices and costs, with every figure explained and the records behind it.

Which modules have analytics pages?

Accidents, Audits, Consumption & Waste, Crew Manager, Crew Planning, Deficiencies, Evaluation & Feedback, Inventory, Near Misses, Non-Conformities, Payroll, Procurement, Running Cost, Technical Findings and Work & Rest Hours: 36 pages in all, each opened from its module's own menu.

How do I know how a figure is calculated?

Open the card's Explain panel. It says what the card shows, how to read its chart with a numbered drawing, how the figures are calculated and on what basis, what the card shows now, how to use it, what to watch out for and the words it uses.

What happens when there are too few records?

Every card says how many records it is based on out of how many are in scope. When there are too few, or they lack the data a view needs, the card says so and offers a wider period. Root cause pages pick the last 12 months, the last 3 years or all history, whichever first holds enough closed issues.

Which industry measures do the cards follow?

Where one exists, the card's basis names it: BIMCO Shipping KPIs for reliefs, sign-off reasons and rest hour violations, MLC 2006 and STCW for rest hours and certificates, OCIMF and SIGTTO for officer matrices, the INTERTANKO officer retention formula, IMPA codes, and each port State control MoU's published figures. The basis explains a method; it is not a certification.

Can I ask Navatom AI about the analytics?

Yes. Ask Navatom AI about issue flow, root causes or audits for the fleet or one vessel and any period, and the answer uses the same figures as the cards, saying when the data is too thin to read a trend.

Ask Navatom AI about Analytics

Navatom AI reads the same cards as the issue flow, root cause and audit analytics pages, for the whole fleet or one vessel and any period you name.

  • Which root causes account for most of our near misses this year?
  • How many open deficiencies are waiting on the office, and how many on the vessels?
  • What is our PSC findings rate per inspection by MoU over the last 12 months?
  • Which non-conformity due dates moved the most this year?

Navatom AI says when the data is too thin to read a trend.
